Zocalos: Fun music and spectacular sangria!

I have to say, I love Mexican food. As a vegetarian, I appreciate how easy it is to get a good, filling meal at a Mexican place. Which is why I was a bit suprised when I went to Zocalo's (2515 Main St.) that they only had one vegetarian entree.

Zocalo's doesn't do typical burritos and enchiladas. They describe their food as "contemporary Mexican." My meal was Chick Peas con Chipotle ($12). It was good, but I ran out of tortillas (required to eat the dish, but you only get 2 very small ones) and was a bit annoyed to be charged $2.50 for more. So the food, well, it was okay.

But the sangria -- oh my, the sangria was fabulous! And at $22 for a pitcher, not a bad deal.

But the real reason I went to Zocalo's was to check out some salsa music, provided by Marlin Ramazzini and the Salsa Beat Trio, who play there every Friday. Zocalo's is a tiny venue, so there was no room for dancing, but the music was great. Between that and the sangria, it was a pretty good way to spend a Friday night. Why not check it out tomorrow?
