Yesterday was Happy Tranny Day in Vancouver

trannyday.jpg

Second perhaps only to San Francisco, Vancouver is home to one of the North America's largest gay and lesbian populations. Most people already know about the Gay Pride parade each year, but there is another population that is looking to get a little more attention too. Yesterday -- April 13th -- was the city's first ever Happy Tranny Day.

The festivities were held at Heritage Hall on Main Street, and the event featured social activities in a safe and supportive space. "It is intended to be a safe and supportive space for trans people, our partners, family and friends to come together and celebrate our courage, resilience and creativity," says Tien Wee, who is spearheading the day-long celebration. "It is an environment where everyone can fully express their gender, and can socialize, connect and make new friends."

Among the organizers for the event were Jessica Cooper (pictured) of the Trans Alliance Society. Organizers are already starting to come up with ideas for next year.
