Women's Ski Jumping Coming to 2010 Olympics?

I think you'd agree that Vancouver is pretty forward-thinking. In this day and age, you would think that men and women would be afforded the same opportunities, but such does not appear to be the case with the Olympic Games. Up until now, ski jumping has been only a male Olympic event but politicians are putting in another push to have women's ski jumping included in the 2010 Winter Olympics.

New Democrat Harry Bains, Olympics critic in the B.C. legislature, and his federal counterparts in the Commons will put forward motions calling on both assemblies to include women's ski jumping as a competitive event in 2010.

"Hopefully we will send a very strong message to the IOC that they need to come out of their ivory towers, be with the people here and do what the people of Canada want them to do and hopefully we will be successful," Bains told a small rally Sunday in downtown Vancouver.

I don't understand what is the opposition to such a motion. Why not include women's ski jumping?
