Winter Arrives in Vancouver

vansnow.jpg

Have you looked out the window today? You should, because winter has made its presence known in Vancouver.

Around this time of year, we are still usually suffering through the usual Vancouver rain, but temperatures and conditions have provided the circumstances for some white stuff to fall in our town. It is a little unusual to see snow in Vancouver prior to Christmas, but it does happen... and is happening.

In fact, Environment Canada has issued wind and snowfall warnings for our neighbors on Vancouver Island. The eastern side of the island (the side closer to us) can expect as much as 10 centimetres of snow. In terms of Vancouver proper, the forecast calls for five to 10 centimetres of snow today.

The record December snowfall in Vancouver dates back to 1964. That year, we saw 89.9 centimetres.
