Who Will Complete the Torch Relay?

torch.jpg

The 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and Whistler are set to take place in less than two years and all the final pieces are starting to fall into place. One of the main issues remaining to be resolved is the question of who will be the final torchbearer in the Olympic torch relay.

The Vancouver Sun recently surveyed a number of its readers and the person who received the most votes was Rick Hansen. He received 36% of the online votes, followed by Olympic ski champion Nancy Greene Raine in second place. Third place was a split between superstar Vancouver goaltender Roberto Luongo and former BC Lions legendary placekicker Lui Passaglia.

Other people in the running, according to the online community, are Joe Sakic, Karen Magnussen, and Steve Nash. More than 12,000 people will carry the torch in all, but we still have to decide who gets that all important final leg. Naturally, the decision comes down to VANOC and not a random smattering of Internet users.
