As long as you don't take your racing too seriously, you might want to check out Tuesday Night Races at Deep Cove Kayak & Canoe Centre.
Why do I say you shouldn't take your racing too seriously? Well, the race is open to any kind of paddle-able boat. On their web site, they list some of the options as "rowboat, kayak, dugout, surf ski, canoe, outrigger, K1, or Dragon Boat." And sometimes, just to keep it interesting, they through in running and swimming portions to the race too.
I must admit, that would be quite a sight!
The race entry fee is $3, and kayak rentals are $15 for a single or $20 for a double. The races usually last about 30 minutes. Reservations and pre-payment are required, and can be made no more than one week in advance. Call 604 929 2268 to register, or check out http://www.deepcovekayak.com/rental-and-lessons/racing/ for more info.
