West Vancouver Becomes Host Venue City

cypress-upsidedown.jpg

The 2010 Winter Olympic Games are starting to sneak up on us pretty quickly and there is development going on all around Metro Vancouver in anticipation. Up until now, the two major venue cities have only been Vancouver and Whistler, even if there will be events and festivities in other municipalities. One of these "other" municipalities is West Vancouver.

Even though Cypress Mountain is going to play host to snowboard and freestyle competitions, West Vancouver had not yet been bestowed with the official title of "host venue city." That is, until now. It is through the private donations of six "well-to-do" families that West Vancouver can fly the rings and officially be called a 2010 Olympic venue city. These families put up a combined donation of $1 million.

This was necessary to meet the minimum criteria by VANOC so that West Van could use the Olympic rings.
