Wayne Gretzky Downplays 2010 Olympic Role

waynegretzky2010.jpg

Wayne Gretzky is possibly the most famous and best-loved Canadian athlete of all time. He has an incredible number of nearly unbreakable records in the NHL and he also happens to be a community leader in many ways. It's already known that The Great One will have a role in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, but exactly what responsibilities will he have?

In an interview earlier today with Sportsnet, Wayne Gretzky said that he would be involved with Hockey Canada and Team Canada for the games, but his role will be "smaller" than most people are expecting. The major and hard decisions will instead by made by Hockey Canada president Bob Nicholson, who will be choosing the general manager for the organization in the coming weeks. In Gretzky's own words, "It's not going to be me."
