Wal-Mart Replaces Costco on Grandview Highway

walmart.JPG

It seems that Wal-Mart is finally coming to Vancouver, but it's not going to be the Southeast Marine Drive location as previously planned. Instead, it seems like the blue vests and yellow smiley faces will be usurping the giant boxes of Costco.

The proposed location for Wal-Mart's first Vancouver store will be a 2.5-hectare site in East Vancouver that is currently occupied by Costco. It's located on Grandview Highway and Skeena, in between Boundary Road and Rupert Street. The key to this site is that it does not require city council approval. According to McLean Group president Jason McLean, the switch to a new retail occupant already conforms with existing zoning. The McLean Group owns the site on Grandview Highway.

If you still need to get your Costco fix, you need not worry. They're opening up a new store in nearby Burnaby.
