Waldo Is On a Vancouver Rooftop

waldo.jpg

This has to be one of the more creative projects that I've heard in some time. Melanie Coles is a local artist and Emily Carr student who has decided to make a huge version of Waldo from "Where's Waldo?" fame. You've surely seen this worldly traveler with his walking stick, toque, and striped shirt before. Maybe at the dentist's office as you were waiting for your cleaning. Well, you will soon be able to look for him in Google Maps.

The monstrous version of Waldo created by Coles is 16 metres tall and has been placed on the rooftop of some building in Vancouver. The idea is that the Google Maps satellite will pass through Vancouver at some point and Coles hopes that her Waldo will be big enough to be picked up by the satellite imagery. Seeing how we can make out some details of cars, the 16-metre Waldo should be visible too.

Google does not release information about the satellite's orbit path, so we'll just have to wait until it makes its next pass of Vancouver. In any case, Waldo should be appearing at least within the next year. When that happens, it will prove to be one of the largest Waldo searches of all time.
