VGH Receives Substantial Upgrades

vgh-photo.jpg

Canada has always been known for having a pretty good healthcare system, especially when compared to the situation that you find in the United States (as depicted by Michael Moore's most recent documentary, Sicko). In order to keep up with the latest in medical technology and safety, Vancouver General Hospital's emergency department has just received "extensive renovations", according to a report by the CBC.

As a part of these upgrades, VGH now has six more beds, a state of the art CT scanner (the first of its kind in Canada), and improved infection control via the new sliding glass doors between most beds. The new $2.6 million scanner (funded by various donors including Gordon and Leslie Diamond) "is able to scan twice as fast as its conventional counterpart and provides better images while exposing patients to half the radiation." A diagnosis can be established sooner, and thus, the appropriate actions and/or treatment can also be provided sooner.
