VANOC warns of unauthorized Olympic tickets

Some companies, it seems, are already offering packages that include tickets to Vancouver 2010 Olympic events, even though the tickets are not yet on sale. So if you get an offer for a package that includes Olympic seats, beware!

According to VANOC, the only way to get your hands on official Olympic tickets is to go to Vancouver2010.com between Oct. 3 and Nov. 7, 2008 and submit a ticket request. Ticket requests will be processed, with random lottery drawings being held for the right to purchase tickets to high-demand events. The Vancouver 2010 games will be the first to use bar-coding, so tickets that "look" official won't be good enough (there have been problems with forged tickets at past Olympics).

Official packages including accommodations and tickets will be available through the official hospitality supplier, Jet Set Sports and CoSport.

VANOC is sending warning letters to 1,200 of Canada's largest companies, since large companies are often the ones approached by shady ticket dealers. VANOC's warning will also reach 176,000 members of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
