Vancouver Street Racing Video on YouTube

streetracevid.jpg

Street racing is incredibly dangerous, but it could be even more stupid to post videos of the illegal activity on public video sharing sites like YouTube. Despite this, that's exactly what recently happened when a group of car enthusiasts got together to zip around Metro Vancouver at speeds as high as 240km/h. These are on public roads.

A 19-year-old Vancouver man uploaded videos to YouTube over the weekend, proudly displaying his high-performance Honda S2000, accepting an invitation to meet at Byrne Road and Marine Way in Burnaby at 11pm Saturday. The invitation, extended by Vancouver TS founder Freddy Fonseca, was to see if anyone wanted to race.

"If we find a good road where there's no one around, we'll actually block that road and do it," Fonseca said. "I mean, other than killing ourselves there's no one else we can really kill."

Realistically, street racing is about as dangerous as it gets, but auto enthusiasts have very few options to "get this out of their system" in the Vancouver area. Mission Raceway is limited and there really is nothing in the Metro Vancouver area. If they want to stifle street racing, they need to provide more easily accessible alternatives.
