Vancouver Still Car Theft Capital of Canada

crime-car-thief.gif

Although the car theft rate in British Columbia is started to decrease, we shouldn't be lulled into a false sense of security. According to Statistics Canada, Vancouver "has one of the highest per capita rates of vehicle theft, more than 53 per cent higher than the Canadian average." What makes this figure even scarier is that, on a per capita basis, Vancouver's car theft rate is "a sobering 153 per cent higher than Toronto."

If you own a car, make sure you protect it. The bait car campaign has been reasonably successful and awareness has been improved, but you still have to do your own part to protect your car against theft. Boomerang Tracking suggests a four step approach:

- Common sense approach to locking doors and taking precautions
- Using an alarm system or steering lock
- Driving a vehicle equipped with an immobilizer
- Equipping your vehicle with a covertly-installed vehicle tracking and recovery system
