Vancouver Safe Injection Site Gets 6 Month Extension

safeinjectionsite.jpg

The safe injection site in the Downtown Eastside has been applauded by certain authorities for helping to address the pressing drug abuse problem in Canada's worst postal code. Despite this, you do have to remember than the safe injection site was supposed to be just an experiment, and as such, its future is still unclear and funding to run the centre has not been guaranteed.

On the bright side, Ottawa has authorized a six-month extension for the safe-injection site, allowing the facility to stay open until at least June. The key reason is so that the government can "shelve the issue until after a possible fall election, leaving a suffering community in limbo."
