Vancouver Prostitutes Get Treatment Facility

prostitutes.jpg

It is the world's oldest profession, but it is also one that has caused a lot of pain and suffering for several young women in our city. Thankfully, a new program is being put in place in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside that will help provide female prostitutes with "a safe place to turn as they kick the vicious drug addictions that forced them into the survival sex trade."

The new facility will have 20 beds for the young women and it will be "abstinent-based". Located within two floors of the Roosevelt Hotel, the treatment facility is literally across the street from Insite, the city's supervised safe injection site. This is all part of a larger plan for risk management and harm reduction.

The facility will admit women into the program, granting them access to mental health and addiction treatment. The treatment process will take between six and nine months, and then the women are released into social housing.
