Vancouver Police Officers Get Guaranteed Pay Raise

vancouver_police_on_horses.jpg

Our cities finest are about to be on the receiving end of a fairly healthy pay raise.

An arbitrator has worked out a deal wherein Vancouver's police officers will get a pay hike of 13 percent over the course of 39 months. This works out to about a four percent raise each year for the next three years.

Vancouver mayor Sam Sullivan said that they needed to keep wages competitive with other police departments across Canada. The department has had some trouble recruiting new officers, so hopefully the raise in pay will be enough to attract the attention of a few future cops. Sullivan said, "It is important for us to make sure we have good renumeration to attract the best people."

The starting wage for an officer right now is $46,000. After four years on the force, the same officer will be earning up to $70,000 a year.
