Vancouver Library Workers Offered 17.5% Wage Increase

vpl-main.jpg

Workers at Vancouver public libraries have been on strike for three weeks now and talks have remained fairly stagnant. As the garbage continues to pile up in our alleys and the children remain locked out of local community centres, the Vancouver Public Library has offered its striking workers a 17.5% wage increase as part of a new five-year contract.

This offer is on par with what was accepted by the unions in the District of North Vancouver, according to city librarian Paul Whitney. The new contract also contains a clause that allows for future wage adjustments.

No word on how the library employees, represented by CUPE Local 389, have responded to the new offer, but at least it looks like talks are going in the right direction again.
