Vancouver Less Attractive than Calgary and Toronto

vancouverseawall.jpg

That's what a recent report is saying, at least.

An assessment performed by the Conference Board of Canada rated 27 Canadian cities on seven different areas, providing an overall score and ranking these cities accordingly. The board looked at economy, innovation, environment, education, health, society and housing. Taking all of these factors into account, Calgary was rated as "the most economically dynamic and attractive city in Canada."

Toronto and Vancouver came in second and third place, respectively, followed by Edmonton, Victoria, and Ottawa-Gatineau. A large part of Calgary's appeal comes from its red-hot economy, robust employment growth, and young labour force.

Mario Lefebvre, director of the board's new Centre for Municipal Studies, said that companies are starting to invest in areas where there are skilled and talent people rather than the people going to where the jobs are. And it seems like people want to live in Calgary.
