Vancouver farmers' markets now open for the summer!

beets.jpg

It may not look like summer outside, but that's not stopping Vancouver-area farmers and artisans from offering their goods at farmers' markets across Vancouver.

With produce prices at grocery stores -- especially the smaller ones we tend to have access to in the downtown area -- seeming to creep higher and higher every year, you can cut your grocery budget significantly by buying direct from local growers. Plus, the quality is second-to-none, and you se varieties of fruits and vegetables you just don't seem to find in stores. My favourite find from last year was the dozens of different kinds of tomatoes, which I brought home and made into a spectacular salad with balsamic dressing.

In addition to great, farm-fresh produce, you'll find incredible local honeys, jams, cheeses, and other food products, plus lots of natural soaps and other hand-crafted items. (My second-favourite find from last year was a beautiful handmade wooden cheese-board.)

Vancouver Farmers Markets operates 4 markets every week in Vancouver:
