Vancouver Celebrates Tartan Day Too: April 6

scottish.jpg

According to Wikipedia, Tartan Day celebrates "the existing and historical links between Scotland and Scottish descendants in North America." And now Vancouver is going to join in on the festivities with the city's first official Tartan Dy on April 6th. Get our your haggis, bagpipes, and kilts!

Vancouver is joining a long list of cities that celebrate "their Scottish roots" on April 6. The reason for that particular date is that it serves as the anniversary on which the Declaration of Arbroath was created in 1320. Todd Wong was the person who pushed for Vancouver's involvement in Tartan Day. He might remember him as the brainchild behind Gung Haggis Fat Choy dinner, an event that marries Chinese New Year with Robbie Burns Day at the end of January.

The idea is to add a Scottish-flavoured salute to the city's Celtic roots, already acknowledged with an annual St. Patrick's Day parade, Celtic festival and the Gung Haggis dinner.
