Vancouver Canucks Sign Krajicek, New Goalie

I don't know if you've been following all this NHL free agency madness, but for the most part, Dave Nonis and the rest of the Vancouver Canucks management team have remained largely inactive in this market. We've seen key players like Daniel Briere and Ryan Smyth sign lengthy contracts with new teams, but it looks like the home team is going to stay largely unchanged from last year's squad.

Backup goalie Dany Sabourin signed a two-year deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins, so I guess the Canucks needed another netminder to fill those backup shoes. As such, they have just inked a deal with Cory Schneider. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but we can tell you that this is the first pro contract from Schneider, 21, after being selected by Vancouver in the first round, 26th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

In related news, the Canucks re-signed Lukas Krajicek. The 24-year-old defenceman played 78 hockey games with the Canucks last year, putting up three goals and 13 assists. Krajicek came as part of the Luongo deal.
