Vancouver 2010 Olympics Sponsored by Acer

After Lenovo announced that they would no longer be the worldwide partner of the Olympics after the 2008 Games in Beijing, everyone started to wonder who would be providing all the computing gear for the 2010 Olympics. That question has now been answered, because Acer has stepped up to the plate, announcing that it will be the "official worldwide partner in the computer hardware category for the Vancouver Winter games in 2010 and the London Summer games in 2012."

The agreement runs from January 2009 to 2012 and will certainly help Acer improve its international brand presence. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge said, “We are delighted that we will welcome Acer to the TOP (The Olympic Partner) Partner Program in 2009. For the Olympic Movement, this partnership will deliver funding to help stage the Olympic Games in Vancouver and London, technology and services to manage the logistical demands, and people to staff some of the most critical functions."

Acer has not released how much the company paid for the rights. Seeing how Lenovo is said to have forked out between $80 million and $100 million in cash and services for their three-year agreement, Acer will likely put forth a similar amount. Be prepared to get surrounded by Acer products in 2010!
