UNESCO City of Literature #2 = Vancouver?

stackofbooks.jpg

Edinburgh was named the first UNESCO City of Literature back in 2005 and now the battle is on to see which international city will be named the second UNESCO City of Literature. Among the cities in the running for this prestigious title are Amsterdam, Alexandria, Krakow, and our home town of Vancouver.

Spearheading the campaign to get Vancouver the valuable title is Alma Lee, founder of the Vancouver International Writers Festival. Alma is assisted by several representatives around the city, including the Association of Book Publishers of BC, the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, Tourism BC, and Mayor Sam Sullivan.

UNESCO stands for the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization and it is a specialized agency of the United Nations.
