Two-Week Old Seal Pup Saved by Vancouver Aquarium

harbourseal.jpg

Yes, we all enjoy going to the Vancouver Aquarium in Stanley Park. It's fun watching the beluga show and you may wait for hours on end to see if those otters will hold hands again. That said, the Vancouver Aquarium isn't just there for our amusement; they're there to do a little wildlife conservation as well.

A baby harbour seal pup, just two-weeks old, washed ashore on on a beach on the Sunshine Coast (Davis Bay) and the marine mammal rescue team from Vancouver Aquarium jumped to his aid. With some rehabilitation and proper care, the abandoned pup could be released back into the wild in about two months.

For now, the 7.9kg male harbour seal pup is being fed with an "enriched formula", helping him regain some strength and, well, grow up. When he gets a little older, the pup will be able to handle more solid food.
