If you fail to plan, then you should plan to fail. That's why it's good to hear that TransLink is not only planning for the next couple of years. The public transport system has actually laid out a transportation plan that will guide its movements and initiatives for the next thirty years.
Transport 2040 is the name of TransLink's transportation plan. I'm sure you can figure out where they got the 2040 from. In any case, the plan lays out six goals:
1. Reduction in greenhouse gas emissions
2. Shifting the majority of the trips to transit, walking, and cycling
3. Having most jobs and housing in the region located close to the "Frequent Transit Network"
4. Safe, secure and accessible travel throughout the region
5. Managing the transportation network
6. Funding for Translink
Funding has only been approved for the current plans to expand transit and transportation up until 2011. For beyond that, a public consultation will likely take place for 2010-2020.
