Translink Launching No. 33 Bus Line on West 16th

buson16.jpg

There are a myriad of options for getting yourself to UBC. There are buses that already run on West 4th, Broadway, King Edward, West 41st, and more. Even so, these buses are always very crowded (especially in the mornings) and TransLink is hoping to alleviate a little of that congestion by launching another UBC-bound line on West 16th Avenue.

Scheduled to start service in September, the new No. 33 bus route would run through the relatively quiet and tranquil neighborhood on West 16th Avenue, fitting right in between the No. 25 bus line on King Edward and the 99 B-Line on Broadway. Unfortunately, a group of people who live along the new route aren't quite so pleased.

"When a truck comes down my street illegally there's nothing much I can do about it," said area resident Greg Samuels. "But 192 buses a day coming down my street, feeling like they're coming through my living room, that's not acceptable." Samuels suggest that they just increase capacity for the 99 B-Line, but Translink spokesperson Drew Snider feels that they need to "provide more transportation alternatives."

I think its fabulous. 16th is a busy street and once you are past Granville, it really opens up.

I think the route plan is fantastic as well. It'll drop you right at the endowment lands.

    Good call (finally) Translink.
