Tomato Cafe Rocking Its New Home

If you've been in Vancouver awhile, you probably remember the Tomato Cafe from its old location (of 17 years) on Cambie Street. Well, that location is sadly gone, but the Tomato is back at Broadway and Bayswater in Kitsilano.

I've been to Tomato twice now -- once for brunch, and once for dinner. On my dinner outing, I was surprised how few vegetarian dishes there were one offer -- just one token pasta, a cannelloni. It was okay, but not spectacular for $17. That said, my three meat-eating companions were all dazzled by their meals. Apparently, the beef tenderloin ($29) is to die for and the lamb ($26) falls off the bone.

On my brunch outing, I enjoyed a delightful eggs benny sans ham ($9 -- bonus vegetarian points for having a reduced non-meat price) and was quote content to sit in the sunny, pleasant room with good coffee and good food.

Check them out at 2486 Bayswater St at Broadway, or online at tomatofreshfoodcafe.com
