This is just sick.
Around this time of year, shoppers may flock to the malls, but it's also important to think about those less fortunate than yourself. That's why it's great to see organizations like Salvation Army taking all kinds of donations that can be then be given to people who have fallen on hard times. Unfortunately, some heartless crooks have broken into the Salvation Army warehouse near Kingsway and Fraser.
Breaking into the warehouse, they emerged with about 80 boxes of toys with a total value of at least $25,000. Those toys, naturally, were going to given to many needy children throughout the city. They need this kind of thing to pick up their spirits and the thieves took that away from them.
Further still, Major Brian Venables noted that the thieves also stole "some of the meat that we had in our freezer, and so they left the freezers open all night, so what they didn't take is now partially thawed out so we have to discard it."
Donations are up 40% thus far this year, so there are still good people out there. It's a shame that a small group of hooligans ruins it for everyone.
