Telus Lands VoIP Contract with City of Vancouver

Telus is Canada;s second largest telecommunications company and it has now landed a fairly hefty contract with the City of Vancouver. The agreement, which is worth about $7 million, Telus will be responsible for providing the city iwth a new Internet Protocol telephone system and contact centre services. The system is not using conventional landlines, instead opting for the Internet-based VoIP technology.

Vancouver's new VoIP telephony system will link City Hall, polic and fire services, and local departments and services. Telus will be responsible for supplying, installing, and providing support services for all the technology involved in the operation of the system.

The phone system will be built and implemented over the course of the next three years with an official launch taking place some time in 2011.
