Sunshine + snow = great snowboarding on Cypress Mountain

Cypress mountain is a beautiful place to board. Today, with the sun shining over the city, it was truly breathtaking. Better yet, it takes just over half a hour to drive from the top of the mountain to downtown.

As a snowboarding newbie, it's hard for me to judge what's great and what's not about the different local mountains. I can tell you that Cypress mountain's chairlift on the bunny hill is a relief after the rope tow at Mount Seymour. On the bigger hills, Cypress has high-speed quad lifts, while Seymour has much slower two-person lifts, which seem to result in longer lift lines.

However, as I mentioned in my last snowboarding post, Seymour's lessons are much more reasonably priced, especially for women. And the rental lineup seems to move much faster at Seymour -- it took me almost an hour to get through the rental process at Cypress yesterday.

No matter which local mountain is your favourite, get out and board or ski while you can. Cypress has already stopped night skiing, and the last day they're open for this season is April 13. Seymour's still got night skiing (until 10 p.m.) and has not posted a season end date. Grouse appears to still be offering night skiing, but looks to be planning to shut down the slopes mid-April.
