Stan Smyl Moves Up in Canucks Organization

stansmyl.jpg

In terms of the most famous and most loved Vancouver Canucks of all time, I would have to say that it's a toss up between the recently retired Trevor Linden and the legendary man that serves as the topic of today's post. Stan Smyl was Mr. Canuck before Linden came around and if you ask some of the old-timers around time, they'll still tell you that Smyl was a better and more influential player than Trevor.

We're not exactly sure what Trevor Linden is going to do with his life now that he has hung up his skates for good, but Stan Smyl has found himself a new position with the Canucks organization. Even after retirement, these guys can't help but to stick with the sport of professional hockey... and I can't blame them.

Stan Smyl has been named as the new director, collegiate scouting for the Vancouver Canucks. He will be joined by Dave Gagner, who will be serving as the director of player development. In this way, Smyl finds the talent and then Gagner develops it for the team. Sounds like a good arrangement. It's not like Smyl is new to Canucks management, so he should have no problem expanding his role into the realm of player scouting.
