Snow Inside BC Place For Opening Ceremonies?

bcplace.jpg

It might prove to be a little surreal, but the Olympic Game organizers are considering the possibility of having it snow under the dome at BC Place Stadium. The white stuff would come flaking down from the large pillow-like roof, providing an experience that would be similar to having outdoor Opening and Closing ceremonies, but with the control of it all being indoors.

As you may have heard, the 2010 Olympic Games will represent the first time that the Opening Ceremonies for the Winter Games happen at an indoor venue. There were concerns that the experience wouldn't be as fulfilling or authentic than having the ceremonies hosted at an outdoor venue.

“I think there are some extraordinary opportunities audio-visually and in terms of sheer physical effects,” said David Atkins, executive producer of the ceremonies for VANOC. “I think to make it snow in that stadium is going to be not only unique, but incredibly exciting for the audience.”
