Sex Party Beats Canada Post in Lawsuit

canadapostmailbox.jpg

During the 2006 federal election, the Sex Party wanted to send out a series of political flyers that featured images of erotic art. This was a sharp departure from the propaganda that we're used to receiving from political parties, which are usually filled with empty promises and bold claims to fame. Unfortunately for the Sex Party, these flyers never made it our doorsteps and it was because Canada Post refused to deliver them.

The Sex Party then filed a lawsuit against Canada Post for refusing to deliver the political flyers and the result of that lawsuit was released today: The Sex Party wins. The reason why the flyers were not delivered was because of some internal rules at Canada Post prohibiting sexually explicit material, but these rules were even more stringent than those laid out by federal law. As such, the failure to deliver such goods was deemed illegal.

Canada Post now has six months to rework their internal practices, during which time the Sex Party will be "in a holding pattern," according to party leader John Ince.
