Section (3): Funky, tasty, and my goodness -- it's cheap!

After a long, hot day at David Lam Park, checking out the final day of the Vancouver Jazz Festival in the midst of our mini-heat wave, I wandered around Yaletown looking for an interesting place to eat. Well, there are many interesting places to eat in Yaletown, but this time Section (3) caught my eye -- and thank goodness it did!

I'm a vegetarian, so I'm a sucker for a good pasta. Plus, my second-favourite food right now (after green curry) is butternut squash. So when I saw Roasted butternut squash gnocchi on the menu, my heart did a little flip. I was drawn inside, and after asking for -- and getting -- the coolest table in the place (in temperature, not style: the whole place is pretty stylish), was probably more excited than is reasonable to hear the server say that all the pastas were on special for $12. Better yet, pints of Red Truck ale were on special for $3.95.

Egads! How had I not heard of this place before?

To be succinct, the meal was large and delicious. The full description of my dish was Roasted butternut squash gnocchi with green peas, mushrooms, zucchini, sun-dried tomatoes, and rose sauce. My dining partner had the equally tasty (according to him -- I didn't try it due to the chicken) Signature sweet curry penne with chicken. With a pint of red truck pale ale each, we both left with very happy, full bellies (and leftovers!) for less than $35. You really can't beat that, especially in Yaletown.

Section (3) has specials every day of the week, and DJs on Fridays and Saturdays. Visit them at 1039 Mainland street, or visit their (slightly annoying) web site at www.sectionthree.com.
