Sea-to-Sky Will Not Be Closed During Olympics

seatosky.jpg

We already know that the Vancouver area is going to be a lot busier during those two weeks in 2010 than we have ever experienced in the past. I'm positive that traffic levels will be a lot more congested than what we have to deal with during a Canucks game or Expo '86. Be prepared to put up with a lot of traffic jams, that's for sure.

Despite earlier reports to the contrary, however, the Sea-to-Sky highway will not be closed to non-Olympic traffic during the 2010 Winter Games. Previously, we had heard that regular traffic on the route linking Vancouver and Whistler could be severely restricted to ensure that athletes and officials could make their way between the two locations in a timely fashion.

Olympic organizers are now saying that they "do not anticipate closures on the Sea-to-Sky highway at this point in our planning." This is according to Irene Kerr, vice-president of services and transportation for the Games. That doesn't mean it won't happen. It just means that they don't plan on it.
