With the departure of Markus Nasluand and Brendan Morrison in the off-season, many Canucks fans were left wondering who would be named captain of our city's hockey team. Some people pointed toward Ryan Kesler. Others said that Willie Mitchell would be a good choice. Both groups couldn't be more wrong.
After much deliberation and thought, Canucks coach Alain Vigneault has decided on Roberto Luongo as the new captain for the Vancouver hockey club. Strangely, Luongo cannot wear the "C" on his jersey because he is a goalie, but he is permitted to be designated as the team's captain. The three alternates are Ryan Kesler, Mattias Ohlund, and Willie Mitchell.
I always thought that goalies weren't allowed to be team captains. Has that changed? Won't it be an odd site watching Bobby Lu sprint to center ice with every disputed call?
