Sam Sullivan Visits New York for Major League Soccer

msl-ny.jpg

The Vancouver Whitecaps are quite the popular soccer team around these parts, but they feel that it's about time that they hit the big leagues. Partnering up with NBA supserstar Steve Nash, the Whitecaps have put in a bid to enter Major League Soccer. That's because MLS is admitting two new franchises in 2011 and Vancouver wants to be a part of them.

Furthering the bid is current Vancouver mayor Sam Sullivan. The mayor recently took a trip to New York to "shore up support for his city's bid" to join Major League Soccer. He knows that the competition is going to be pretty fierce, so Sullivan wanted to do everything in his power to sway the decision in the direction of our fair city.

As it stands, MLS has 14 teams. Seattle is joining next season and then Philadelphia jumps in for the 2010 season. Vancouver hopes to join in 2011. Other candidate cities include Las Vegas, New York (second franchise), Portland, St. Louis, Montreal, Ottawa, and Atlanta.
