Sam Sullivan Receives Christopher Reeve Award

samsullivan-reeve.jpg

What does Vancouver's mayor have to do with the man made famous by portraying Superman in the '70s and '80s? Well, it turns out that Sam Sullivan will be honoured with the Christopher Reeve Award at a ceremony to be held in Edmonton this Friday night.

The Christopher Reeve Award is mean to recognize "individuals with spinal cord injuries who have made an "outstanding" impact on the world." Sullivan has already made huge strides in breaking down stereotypes about how physically challenged people can impact the world. To my knowledge, he is the first Vancouver mayor to be wheelchair-bound.

This is the third time that the award has been given. The 2006 winner was Jeff Adams, a six-time world wheelchair racing champion, whereas the 2007 winner was Rick Hansen, BC's Man in Motion.
