Rock Slide on Sea-To-Sky Highway

rockslide.jpg

Let's hope that something like this doesn't happen during the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Late last night, there was a massive rockfall that crashed onto the Sea to Sky Highway, narrowing missing a bus with a driver and a passenger as they were traveling between Vancouver and Whistler. The exact cause of the rock slide has not yet been determined, but it's good that -- as far as we can tell -- no one was injured. This occurred just before midnight.

As a result of the rockfall, the highway will be closed for at least two days as the road crews clear out the rubble. In order to remove some of these giant boulders, blasting may be involved. Some rocks are the size of trucks and small houses. The pile of rocks is between Furry Creek and Lions Bay.
