Vancouver is known for having some fantastic world class restaurants. Our city is also known for being home to some of the world's best chefs. Well, Vancouver's Iron Chef Rob Feenie has decided to quit as executive chef of Lumiere and Feenie's. The former can probably continue on as it is, but I'd imagine that the management will be very quick to at least change the name of the latter.
Some reports are saying that Feenie quit, but other say that he was in for quite the kitchen nightmare, getting forced out by business partners David and Manjy Sidoo. Feenie told CBC News that the decision to leave "was made by them."
The new executive chef for both restaurants on West Broadway -- which share a kitchen -- is said to be an apprentice of Gordon Ramsay, made famous by his television show Hell's Kitchen and this year's new show, Kitchen Nightmares.

I saw this coming for a while. You have a couple of "business people", and an artist. Rob sold his soul to the devil(s) to stay in business. Ask Anthony Bourdain about what it takes to cater to a bunch of picky eaters while trying to pay the bills. Those new owners will rot in hell, but meanwhile, the thousands who went to Rob's restaurants will go elsewhere, unwilling to support anything having to do with a bunch of Restauranteur-Wannabees.
Another great restaurant doomed, and not because of the quality....because of greed. People will not support Lumiere or Feenie's, because the foundation has disapeared from the structure. Rob Feenie was the artistic and creative foundation or face of that restaurant.....IT'S OVER BABY!
lets get real, rob blew it. he had it made coming in at 7pm off an hourlater , golfing all day and now look where he is. no one will even back him. he is damaged goods. how many partners does he have to go through. he done. stick a fork in him
The tipping point for a city on the rise.

I actually worked for Feenies last winter, and I do have to say that I believe Chef Feenie's story over the others. What I saw at the restaurant was one guy who really cared about the food and his cooks, and would go out of their way to help them out if they needed it. On a really busy night after Sidoo fired our then senior sous chef, Chef Feenie actually stayed on my station and taught me every single thing that he wanted done on the station, which made it a lot easier. Not to mention that Sidoo was the one who clamped down on the labour budget for the place and caused the layoff of almost half the team only to recruit new ones at a lowered price. Obviously, Sidoo has never stepped into the kitchen there except to fire someone - we all worked under him, but never did I hear a positive feedback on the guy.
