Ribboned Seadragons Arrive at Vancouver Aquarium

seadragon.jpg

I haven't been to the Vancouver Aquarium in quite some time, so I didn't get to catch those sea otters holding hands. I did go to the Aquarium on several occasions for school and I remember that each visit was seriously fun and enlightening. And the exhibits just got a little cooler.

The Vancouver Aquarium just opened two new exhibits in their Canaccord Capital Exploration Gallery and the highlight of these exhibits are some new arrivals from Dallas Aquarium. The ribboned seadragons, pictured here, are native to the northwestern coast of Australia and belong to the pipefish family. In terms of appearance, you could say that they look similar to seahorses. They have a lifespan of about three to five years, and they eat frozen and live mysids (a shrimp-like crustacean).

A wet lab was also introduced at the Aquarium and it is meant to "represent what you'd find under a dock anywhere along the BC coast." You get rockfish, perch, tubeworms, crustaceans and anemones. For more information, check out www.vanaqua.org.
