Raptor Attacks Boy at Greater Vancouver Zoo

zooraptor.jpg

Of the various activities that we can do in and around the city, the Greater Vancouver Zoo has to be one of the favorites. It's a family-friendly environment filled with exotic (and domestic) animals from all around the world. It can be a learning experience for the children and a delightful outing for the parents. However, for one boy and his father, the trip to the zoo didn't go quite so well.

During the raptor show on Sunday, a young boy was attacked by one of the birds. The boy, which witness Kimberlee Malins puts at about four years of age, volunteered to participate in an activity for the show where he would drag around a fake rabbit on a string. A raptor would swoop down on the fake rabbit, mimicking natural hunting behaviors. However, the raptor suddenly released the rabbit and went after the boy's head instead.

You then have hands and claws and beaks everywhere - and a little boy screaming

The Greater Vancouver Zoo has not released any statements over the matter. This just goes to show you that they are still wild animals at the zoo and you should treat them as such.
