Private Paris Hilton Pics Discovered on Facebook

parishilton.jpg

This blog is normally about things that happen in and around Vancouver, so you might be wondering what do Paris Hilton and Facebook have to do with our fair city. Well, as it turns out, a Vancouver computer technician has managed to hack his way through the popular social networking site to discover a series of "photos of a partying Paris Hilton and ones of her young brother in private albums intended to be accessible only to their friends."

You see, even when you post pictures in a private album, the photos are still available for public consumption if they know the exact URL of the photo. Facebook says that they have closed the initial breach, but Byron Ng discovered this security hole when he was checking out an earlier breach that had been fixed by Facebook. He blames the lack of security on "lazy programming."

"In February that hole was closed but in the last week or so I was looking again and playing with it and I found a new hole," said Ng.
