Pick Up Your Fireworks Garbage Please

fireworkstrash.jpg

The theme for Canada's entry into the HSBC Celebration of Light on Wednesday night was Godzilla. The monster was supposed to invade and attack the skies above English Bay, much to the ooh's and aah's of the thousands of spectators. Unfortunately, there was quite a bit more damage in his explosive wake.

The trash scene at English Bay was not pleasant. When you have over 200,000 people gathered in that space, you're bound to have a little bit of garbage left behind, but the mess left by Wednesday's crowd was remarkably bad. It was quite a bit worse than last year's shows, even though the year before that was pretty bad too. You thought the trend was moving toward a cleaner post-fireworks beach...

With that in mind, please pick up your litter when you to go to the three remaining fireworks shows. Most of the garbage is comprised of disposable food and drink containers, so you can easily take these small items to the nearest trash receptacle. They've made an effort to have more of these along high traffic walkways, so do make use of them.
