Peter Ladner Usurps Sam Sullivan for NPA Nod

peterladner.jpg

I don't think anyone saw this coming. Most people were fully expecting Sam Sullivan to be running under the NPA banner for the upcoming Vancouver mayoral election, but it seems that his own party doesn't approve of Sullivan anymore.

The Non-Partisan Association (NPA) had their internal vote for the nomination on Sunday night and it wasn't current Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan that emerged as the victor. Instead, it was former journalist Peter Ladner, a man who may remember for being fired from the Vancouver Sun for telling a public meeting that many people at the Sun smoked marijuana. Since then, Ladner has gone on to be a two-term NPA councillor.

The race between the two candidates was a close one. Ladner got 1,066 votes, whereas Sullivan got 986.
