Olympic Slogan Borrowed from National Anthem

ocanada.JPG

The 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver come with all sorts of official this and official that. We've got the official emblem in the form of the stylized inukshuk. We've got the official mascots in the form of those three critters. And now we have an official Olympic slogan as well.

Officially borrowing from the official national anthem of Canada, the slogan for the 2010 Winter Games will be "With Glowing Hearts", which comes from the second verse. You know, the part that comes before "We see thee rise."

"With Glowing Hearts is connected and familiar to all Canadians through our anthem 'O Canada' and it also embodies what it takes to be an Olympic or Paralympic athlete," said VANOC CEO John Furlong. "It embodies the emotions every athlete will feel - no matter where they are from of what flag they stand under - when they have the honour to represent their own country on the world's grandest international stage in 2010."

And yes, VANOC has filed for a trademark on its use.
