No More Drive-Thru Windows in North Vancouver

drivethru.jpg

Would you like fries with that?

If you happen to cruise up to a fast food joint in North Vancouver, you may not be able to hear that through a muffled speaker for very much longer. The City of North Vancouver is debating a motion tonight wherein all restaurant drive-thru windows in the city could be banned altogether. This could seriously restrict your options when it comes to midnight munchies.

Put forth by Councilor Sam Schecter, the motion is designed to "limit the growth of drive-thrus in North Vancouver, so in the future as businesses arrive, they won't have a drive-thru service window." He cites the burden of greenhouse gases from idling cars as a primary motivation.

There is only one drive-thru window in the City of North Vancouver right now -- a local A&W restaurant -- but drive-thrus are scattered all around the Vancouver area, including Richmond, Burnaby, and Surrey. You'll also find many drive-thru windows in the District of North Vancouver. Should the motion pass, the existing A&W should be allowed to keep its drive-thru.
