Mysala, we hardly knew you...

Back in July, I tried to take my mom and grandma to Mysala on Granville St. for my grandma's birthday. When we showed up, we were told they were closed for the day sue to a B&E. Seems they never reopened. At the beginning of September, I called to make reservations for dinner, and got a message saying they were closed for renovations until Aug. 31. Since it was, as I mentioned, September, I figured this did not bode well for Mysala's future.

And today, walking down the Granville strip, I noticed that the Mysala sign is gone, and a new one is up. The new joint will be called Deuce Bungalow. Is there a reference to the movie Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigolo in the name? Well, it seems so. I'm not sure why, since the sign says it's a "Spanish contina."

In any case, I never got to try Mysala. With an extreme shortage of nice restaurants on the Granville strip, here's hoping Deuce Bungalow will take up the slack, and survive. I'm afraid the name makes me think this isn't the kind of place I'd try for lunch with mom and grandma, though...

I tried Deuce Bungalow on the weekend with a friend. Overall I would give the food a 9/10....strange name for a restaurant, but great food, music and atmosphere!
