Lyle Lovett gets a standing ovation at the Orpheum

Last night I went to the Orpheum to see Lyle Lovett and his Large Band. What a show! From the time Shawn Colvin, the excellent opening act, started her performance to the end of Lyle's encore was almost four hours. My knees were unhappy, having been tucked into a seat with nonexistent leg room, but I was thrilled nonetheless.

If you've never seen Lyle Lovett live, you're missing out -- even if you're not a huge fan of his style of music. The man knows how to put on a show. And he's clearly well respected in the music industry -- his entire band is made up of music-industry veterans, and the combined effect is mezmerizing.

So it was no surprise that the show ended with a roaring standing ovation. Based on the response of last night's crowd, and some in-between-songs banter Lyle shared about a previous trip to the Commodore (that involved a woman rushing the stage), Vancouver loves Lyle. And Lyle seems to live Vancouver, so hopefully he'll be back with his large band in tow soon!
